Vocab for boy in the striped pyjamas chapters 8 to 9 wk 3

Forlorn - Ch.8
The boy was smaller than Bruno and was sitting on the ground with a forlorn expression.
The boy was sitting their forlorn expression on his face after getting hit in the face
Enunciate - Ch.8
You do not speak until he speaks to you and then you reply in a clear tone, enunciating each word precisely. Is that understood?'
The boy read out his speech enunciating every word precisely

Disdain -ch.8
'I'm twelve but he's only nine,' said Gretel, looking at her brother with disdain.
The Queen said to her guards get him out of here with disdain
Inconsolable - Ch.8
(His departure had come about very suddenly and there had been a lot of shouting between Father and Mother about it late at night, but he was gone, that was for sure, and he wasn't coming back; Gretel was inconsolable.)
The boy's dad had just past away and he was inconsolable.

Appalled - Ch.8
'Marches!' said Bruno, appalled.
You could see on her face that she was appalled after what she had just seen

Unaccustomed - Ch.8
Shmuel smiled too and the two boys stood awkwardly together for a moment, unaccustomed to being on the same side of the fence.
The boy was unaccustomed to bungee  jumping

Strode - Ch.9
Lieutenant Kotler still strode around in his black boots as if there was no one in the whole world of any more importance than him, and when he wasn't with Father he was standing in the driveway talking to Gretel while she laughed hysterically and twirled her hair around her ringers, or whispering alone in rooms with Mother.
He strode around the living room thinking about what he was going to have for tea
Evidence- Ch.9
'Take a look at him for your evidence.'
He scanned the room for any evidence

Despite - Ch.9
'Don't be stupid,' said Gretel, despite the fact that she had been told time and time again that she was not to call her brother stupid.
Despite being told 100 times he still ran in front of the bus

Nooks - Ch.9
After all, this wasn't like the house in Berlin, which he could just about remember had hundreds of nooks and crannies, and strange little rooms, not to mention five floors if you counted the basement and the little room at the top with the window he needed to stand on tiptoes to see through.

In this game of hide and seek there were heaps of nooks and crannies to hide in

Winter personification story

The trees danced in the ice cold winter wind bits of ice sliding down my back freezing me half to death I trudged through the meter deep snow my feet getting buried after every step and my hands almost breaking off with the cold. Out of the towering trees came a magnificent red sleigh golden bars and standing on top with the reins in her hands was a Queen covered in white, her cape was flying in the wind face as pale as the color white. I check my watch and it says -20 degrees I freeze in worry I was a statue if I don’t keep warm enough I could get hypothermia and die, Winters harsh weathers can change quickly out here it can go from blue skies and then after five minutes it can become snowstorms and blizzards. A flash of Lightning danced across the sky and then it Started crying and snow started descending on the Ground wind howling everywhere it was getting colder and colder by the second, I needed to find a shelter and fast. And from behind me, I heard a loud rumble louder than I had ever heard before it was an avalanche and it devoured everything in its path as it slid rolled and tumbled down the mountain luckily it was heading away from me. the water wiggled forward and back .all of the snow falling down made a soft crunchy white blanket covering the land.

Vocab for boy in the striped pyjamas chapters 6 to 7 wk 2

Clenched - Ch.6 She laid the rest of his clothes down on the bed and her hands clenched into fists as if she was terribly angry about something.
He was so angry that he clenched his fists and went to try and punch someone.

Enforced - Ch.6 'When I make mistakes I get punished,' insisted Bruno, irritated by the fact that the rules that always applied to children never seemed to apply to grown-ups at all (despite the fact that they were the ones who enforced them).
All the rules that my mum and dad had Enforced I had to listen to

Muttered - Ch.6 'Well,' he muttered, standing up now and heading over towards the door, suddenly anxious to be away from her, 'I was only saying I didn't like it here, that's all.
The man muttered under his breath

Peckish - Ch.6 He wanted to mention that he was feeling a bit peckish right now, but instead, he looked across at Maria and realized for the first time that he had never fully considered her to be a person with a life and a history all of her own.
I’m feeling a little bit peckish at the moment

Reverberated - Ch.6 The noise of a door slamming came from downstairs and reverberated through the house so loudly - like a gunshot - that Bruno jumped (page 63) and Maria let out a small scream.
I screamed as loud as I could and it Reverberated of the walls in the room

Securely -Ch.7 The accident took place a couple of hours later after Bruno had located a suitable tire and Pavel had dragged it to the large oak tree on Gretel's side of the house, and after Bruno had climbed up and down and up and down and up and down the trunk to tie the ropes securely around the branches and the tire itself.
The ropes hadn’t been securely tied around the wheels of the bike

Exhaustion - Ch.7 . Instead, he was wearing a white vest over his trousers and his hair flopped down over his forehead in exhaustion.
John fell over in exhaustion

Incredulous- Ch.7 'I'm not allowed to say what I feel?' he repeated, incredulous.
My dad just said we had won a million dollars, incredulous

Appallingly - Ch.7 'Good morning, little man,' said Kotler, reaching out and - quite appallingly - ruffling his hand through Bruno's hair, a gesture that made Bruno want to push him to the ground and jump up and down on his head.
Someone Appallingly kicked this person for no reason

Irritation - Ch.7 'Oh, will you be quiet please,' shouted Bruno, staring at his sister in irritation.
Get out of my room yelled Tim in irritation.

Frozen adventure writing using the work we did on similes and metaphors

The amazing waterfall was a hydraslide heading down the arctic wasteland and the ice sticking up around the place was like world war 2 all looking like trenches. Penguins were flying around everywhere off the big icebergs like airplanes taking off beaks as sharp as javelins. The icebergs in the water were like boats lots in the middle of nowhere It was like we were on a reverse desert instead of being hot it was cold because Antarctica is actually a desert. There were also so many small mountains to climb so I had a go at first I slipped but then I regained my footing and kept on going and in time at all, I was at the top. I stepped out of my cabin and immediately I turned into a statue my whole body completely frozen in ice I slowly slid across the ice with my feet submerged in ice then as I move along the icy plains I come across a chocolaty rock sticking out of what looked like vanilla icing. Running around everywhere were white gummy bears with little baby gummy bears. “SMASH!” The ice broke just in front of me and out came 2 sea lions their teeth were razor blades skin all rough and an angry expression on there faces I didn’t want to mess around with these guys. So I set off running for home I didn’t think the sea lions would be fast being water creatures but to my amazment, they were fast really fast and they almost got me but I just made it home with them biting at my heels. Today I decided to go for a hike up the tallest mountain in Antarctica and on the way there was a massive crack in the ice and then all of a sudden it seemed to let go of the edge of Antarctica and flew straight down into the icy depths below now the track was blocked there was no way through and then like a majestic seal emerging out of the water the piece of ice came shooting back out bringing fish with it was raining fish. In conclusion, Antarctica is melting because of us and we don't even care when I was talking about the water shoots that's all melted ice and in no time all the ice will be gone and the water will rise and we will drown.
